Now that fall is slowly starting to roll in, I wanted to share some tips about dressing for winter in Orlando. Pictured below are from my last December trip. These pictures were taken one day apart. As you can see, in one picture, my daughter is rocking a short sleeve t-shirt and leggings, but in the next picture she’s in full blown winter gear with the winter coat, scarf, and hat.

The weather in Florida is unpredictable and if you aren’t accustomed to the humidity, the cold will be shocking. Every time I’ve been to the parks in winter, it never fails, there are people in shorts and t-shirts because they think the 40 degree temps will be like what they have at home. That’s not really how it works.
This is the best way to describe it – imagine dumping a bucket of ice water over your body, then putting a light jacket on, and hanging out all day soaking wet in 40 degree temps. That’s what the weather is like in Florida. The humidity will seep through your clothes and into your bones. Please be prepared.
- Pack layers that you can pull off if the humidity drops and the sun comes out.
- Pack jackets that are waterproof and wind resistant (it’s also handy if they can roll up tight to stick on or in your park back when you take them off.
- Bring hats or head wraps that will tightly cover ears (especially if you have family members prone to ear aches).
- Bring warm shoes (your feet will be the first thing that gets cold and numb, so either pack winter shoes or super warm socks).
- Bring gloves (I recommend the ones that still allow you to use your cell phone so you don’t have to take off the gloves each time you need to check for a reservation time).
