In my last post I discussed the things I do to boost my family’s immune system before a trip. Of course those things can be implemented regardless of whether you are going on a trip. We want to have every chance at staying healthy always, not just when we are planning a trip.
Next, I want to get to the best precautions for not catching anything from others during your trip. Most of you are going to say, duh Jenn, this is common sense. But you know what? We forget! We get busy and excited and we don’t always remind everyone to do this. And my hope is that this post will just keep that thought in your head. You will remember to do it because you just read this. So what is it?
While you are on the trip the number one preventative measure is to WASH THOSE HANDS. You will come into contact with so many people that have touched so many things. Keeping your hands clean is key to staying healthy. Especially at a theme park. And I don’t mean just using anti-bac gel all day. I mean really wash those hands with soap and water!
And then still keep to a good diet. I know it’s hard because there are so many good foods on vacation. And that’s fine! Just don’t forget to also eat healthy dinners. 😉 If you are going to let those yummy cupcakes and specialty treats slide, then also make sure to get in those veggies during the main meals.
Another thing is rest. Disney is exhausting. The average person walks 12 miles a day at Disney. We get up early and go to bed late. But when there are viruses in the air, that exhaustion can turn to sickness. Make sure your family is getting enough rest. I know you don’t want to miss anything, but you will miss a lot more if someone gets sick. So take it easy. Know that you may not have time for everything and be ok with that. Don’t push yourself or your family to their limits.
Of course, those nasty viruses aren’t always easy to defeat, so sometimes despite our best efforts someone gets sick anyway.
On our last trip to Disney, my daughter started not feeling well on the last day. I headed to park first aid. They are so great in there. They will recommend a doctor if needed, but if not then they can offer you OTC meds. For us, we got Tylenol and Sudafed. It definitely helped get her through the rest of our day in a better mood.

The in-park first aid nurses can help you with most non-emergent care. If you would need a doctor while on your trip to Disney, your concierge will help advise you on where to go. They can call a car to pick you up and take you if that is necessary. Here are the Urgent care clinic and in-room care numbers you can call also: 407-648-5252 for Lake Buena Vista or 855-326-5252 for Kissimmee.
So now that you have all this information I pray you have a healthy vacation and a magical time! 🙂
In the last blog post I offered my recipe for elderberry syrup and had some of you ask for it. I have made a pdf of it for you. If you would like to have it, click the download button below.
